Cartooning and Drawing 1 and 2
Cartooning 1 begins an exploration of graphic (picture) narratives (stories) by approaching comics as the meeting of art and writing. Students study some of the history and many of the "how-to"s of comics, and also spend time drawing the human figure (with a focus on anatomy and proportions) and learning one and two point perspective. Students create individual as well as collaborative comics in the genres of humor, superhero, editorial, and autobiography.
In Cartooning 2 students continue to study some of the history and apply many of the how-to's of comics as we move into the digital realm. Hand drawn comics and illustrations are scanned and finished using a variety of tools and techniques in Adobe Photoshop, preparing students for a variety of creative careers. Students also learn screen printing, creating original drawings to print on paper and garments.
